Casino Withdrawal Times and Payment Methods

The three stages of a UK casino withdrawal, how payment methods compare and how to escalate a stalled payout.

Depositing at a casino takes seconds. Getting money back can take anywhere from minutes to several working days, and the difference has less to do with luck than with a handful of predictable factors: the casino’s own processing, the checks it is required to run, and the payment method you chose at the start. This guide breaks a UK casino withdrawal into its stages, compares the main payment methods, and explains what to do when a payout stalls.

Understand the three stages of a withdrawal

StageWho controls itWhat happens
1. PendingThe casinoYour request waits in a queue before review. Some casinos process immediately; others hold requests for a set period
2. Review and checksThe casinoThe operator confirms the account is yours, checks bonus terms have been met and runs any required financial checks
3. TransferYour payment providerMoney moves from the casino to your card, bank or e-wallet

When people complain about slow withdrawals, the delay is usually in stage one or two. Stage three depends on the payment rails and is mostly outside the casino’s control.

Reverse withdrawals are banned. Since 31 October 2021, UKGC-licensed casinos have not been allowed to offer you the option to cancel a withdrawal and carry on playing with the money. If a site invites you to do that, it is not following UK rules.

Compare payment methods on withdrawal, not deposit

Nearly every method deposits instantly. The differences show up on the way out. These are general characteristics of each method; the casino’s own cashier page gives its specific times and limits.

MethodWithdrawal characteristicsPoints to note
Visa debitFast card payout services can deliver funds within minutes of approval where supported; otherwise a few working daysDepends on your card issuer as well as the casino
Mastercard debitSimilar to Visa; fast payouts available where both sides support themSame as above
Bank transfer via Faster PaymentsUsually arrives within seconds of being sent, and can take up to two hoursOpen banking makes deposits and withdrawals straightforward
PayPal and other e-walletsOften among the quickest once the casino approvesMust not be funded by a credit card for gambling
Pay by mobileRarely available for withdrawalsYou will need a second method to cash out
Prepaid vouchersDeposit only at most sitesSame as above
Credit cardNot availableBanned for gambling in Great Britain since 14 April 2020

The closed-loop rule

Casinos generally pay withdrawals back to the method you deposited with, where possible. This is an anti-money laundering measure. If you deposit by debit card and later want to withdraw to an e-wallet, expect the casino to send at least the deposited amount back to the card first.

Get verified before you need to withdraw

UK rules require casinos to verify your age and identity before you gamble. Most of the checks happen at sign-up, using electronic data. If they cannot verify you automatically, they will ask for documents such as a passport or driving licence and a recent proof of address.

Some checks happen later, triggered by the amount you deposit or withdraw:

  • Source of funds: where your gambling money comes from, for example payslips or bank statements.
  • Financial risk checks: the Gambling Commission has been piloting frictionless financial vulnerability checks using publicly available data, with the threshold lowered from £500 to £150 of net deposits over a rolling 30-day period in February 2025. Most of these assessments are completed without the customer needing to do anything.
  • Payment ownership: proof that a card or e-wallet is in your name.
  1. Use your legal name and current address at registration.
  2. Upload documents early if the casino asks, rather than at withdrawal.
  3. Deposit only with methods in your own name.
  4. Keep your contact details up to date, so verification messages reach you.

Clear bonus terms before requesting a payout

If you have an active bonus, the casino will check whether wagering has been completed before releasing bonus winnings. Since 19 January 2026, wagering at UKGC-licensed casinos is capped at 10x, which makes this stage less of an obstacle than it used to be. Breaching a maximum bet rule or playing excluded games while a bonus is active can still lead to bonus winnings being removed. Our bonus guide covers the terms to check.

Your own deposited cash should be treated separately from bonus funds. If you are unsure how a casino handles the two, ask support before you play.

Read the cashier page for the real numbers

Every licensed casino publishes its withdrawal details. Before you deposit, look for:

DetailWhy it matters
Pending periodThe longest part of many withdrawals
Processing daysSome casinos process only on working days
Minimum withdrawalSmall balances may be stuck below it
Maximum per transaction or periodLarge wins may be paid in instalments
FeesMost licensed casinos do not charge, but check
Methods available for withdrawalNot every deposit method pays out

Act when a withdrawal stalls

  1. Check your email and account messages. Most delays are a document request you have not seen.
  2. Ask support for the reason in writing. Live chat transcripts are useful evidence.
  3. Use the formal complaints process. Every UKGC licensee must have one, with a time limit for a final response.
  4. Escalate to the casino’s ADR provider. If the complaint is not resolved, the casino must tell you which approved alternative dispute resolution provider it uses. The service is free to you.
  5. Tell the Gambling Commission. The Commission does not resolve individual disputes, but it uses complaints to spot problems with operators.

Do not keep playing while you wait. A withdrawal that is pending is still your money. Gambling it while you wait for a payout is exactly the behaviour the reverse withdrawal ban was designed to prevent.

Plan for a large win

A big win changes the withdrawal process in a few predictable ways. Expect a fresh round of checks, possibly including source-of-funds questions, and be ready to provide documents quickly. Check the casino’s maximum withdrawal per transaction and per period, as large sums may be paid in stages. Bank transfers usually handle large amounts more smoothly than cards or e-wallets, which can have their own limits. Keep a record of every request, confirmation and message until the full amount has landed.

Know what happens if a casino goes bust

UKGC operators must tell you how customer funds are protected if the company becomes insolvent, rated as not protected, medium or high protection. If you keep a significant balance at a casino, that rating matters. The simplest protection, whatever the rating, is to withdraw winnings promptly rather than leaving them in your account.

Withdrawal FAQs

Why was my withdrawal split into parts? Large withdrawals can exceed a payment method’s limit or the casino’s per-transaction maximum, so they may be paid in several transfers.

Do I pay tax on withdrawals? No. Gambling winnings are not taxed for players in the UK.

Can a casino refuse to pay? Only in line with its terms, for example if the account was not genuinely yours or terms were breached. If you disagree, use the complaints process and ADR.

Withdrawing wins promptly is one of the simplest safer gambling habits. If gambling is becoming hard to control, call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free and 24/7, or register with GAMSTOP to block all UK-licensed sites.
